Katarina began skating on ice when she was five. Her natural talents became more apparent and she was accepted into the Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on youngsters with sporting aptitude. Here she first saw the coach Jutta M ller. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. From that moment on the elegance and grace of her skating captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in this particular sport. Olympic Success At Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women in a highly competitive contest. A few years later she took home another contest that was even more competitive. The free skater was unable to win however she was awarded the gold medal for her figures that were compulsory and her short programme. Witt was the first woman after Sonja Haenie to win a repeat figure skating winner. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating following her successes as a film actor. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Fans were amazed by her performance despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt was elected to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in the year 1995.
